There are plenty of microfluidic device available in the scientific community. Some of them allows for the cultivation of single cell in very precise environmental conditions. We use a 2D-chamber based microfluidics, compatible with time-lapse microscopy, to keep track of the development of single cell and microcolonies. unlike flow cytometry, microfluidics enables tracking a specific cell within a population, leading to the characterization of its whole lifeline (i.e., time evolution of cell growth and gene expression).
